A Message of Hope to Warm Your Heart

Dear Friend,

Though it is not springtime yet, I have found myself looking for the bright rays of the sun to warm my spirit as I anticipate the new life that spring brings. While the forecast remains cool, I am reminded of something far greater that can lift our hearts as we wait for the winter snow to thaw. That something is HOPE.

Hope is the brightest light we can carry in our hearts during the winter seasons of life. It warms our spirits and brightens our pathways on the cold and dark days. Like a campfire roaring bright when it is properly tended, hope is brightest when it is well fueled within us.

I recently started fueling my heart with hope by listening to uplifting music and positive messages on my drive to work, instead of the news. While I still stay informed with what is going on in the world around us, I have found that being intentional about what I listen to first thing in the morning, has made a darkened world, seem a little bit brighter.

The light in my heart grows brighter just by being here at the Dream Centre each day, as I hear the stories of hope from our very own resident’s. I watch them make the choice to hope for a better future in the face of adversity and transform into whom they’ve always been created to be. If you need some hope, check out our transformation stories here!

Lastly, I encourage you with this: if you are feeling low and tired, waiting for the new life of spring to approach and lift your weary soul, take courage and know that there is hope in the middle of winter. You just need to take the time to fuel it, so it can burn bright within you.

May God bless you as you continue to read about the amazing work going on at our centre and may your heart be filled with warmth as you choose to HOPE with us this winter.

Did you know we have an amazing wood shop? Our Woodshop is unique, it offers recreational programming to those enrolled in our Addiction Recovery Program and operates as a Social Enterprise which brings revenue to support the various Dream Centre programs. Every week, participants from our recovery program visit our woodshop. Here, they learn basic woodworking skills and have the opportunity to build their own project that they can take with them after their time in the program is done.

Much like their journey in Recovery, they are taught to use new tools to build something they can be proud of. Learning new skills builds confidence and teaches values that help our residents integrate back into the workplace after graduating from the program.

When our Woodshop isn’t busy helping our residents learn, they spend their time creating beautiful products that you can purchase! With 100% of the proceeds going back to the Dream Centre, you can furnish your home and support those overcoming addiction and homelessness.

Change Is Good Storefront

In December 2021, we launched an exciting new social enterprise right in the heart of the beautiful Inglewood community. This social enterprise is a curated second-hand store with 100% of the profits supporting the men and women at the Calgary Dream Centre who are changing their lives for good!

Not only do we have beautiful second-hand clothing for sale, but we have partnered with local vendors to share and support some of our favourite independent brands. Keep your eyes peeled for their beautiful products all around our store.

We are open Tuesday – Sunday from 11 AM – 5 PM, and our address is 1317 9th Ave SE, Calgary AB, T2G 0T2.

Did you know we receive women’s clothing donations at our store? These donations can be received anytime during store hours.
